Types of Tenses
Simple Past Tense
The simple past tense in the english language is used to represent an action or state of being or an event that happened in the past. A verb is included in the simple past tense sentence . the verb used in the sentence which is simple past tense ends with a d or ed.
Examples : I played football yesterday.
Past Continuous Tense
Past continuous tense is used to show an action which is ongoing or an event which is continuing as it is mentioned while talking , or in the middle of an action.
Words like was , were are used along with verb+ing words are used in past continuous tense sentences.
Examples : The opponent team arrived when were warming up.
Past Perfect Tense
The past perfect tense makes it very evident that an event happened in the past before another event in the past. it refers to a time before than now.
Words like had are used in the past perfect tense sentences.
Examples : I had completed the dribble before they could tackle me.
Past Perfect Continuous Tense.
Past perfect continuous tense shows that an event or an action took place in the past and ended up until another time in the past.
Words like had been verb=ing are used in the past perfect continuous sentence.
Example : I had been studying in the same college for past five years to get my degree.
Simple Present Tense.
Simple present tense is used in a sentence to represent and action or an event that takes place or has just happened in the context its happened at present. Base forms of verbs ar used in sentences which are present tense.
Example : I'm Nineteen years old .
I have a bad day today.
Present Continuous Tense.
Present contionuous tense is a type of tense which is used when an action or event is occuring or is in process or occuring at the moment or can be used for the planned for future sentences.
Verb+ing words are used in present continuous sentences.
Examples : I am playing Football.
I am working on my project.
Present Perfect Tense.
Present perfect tense is used to represent an action or an event which has just happened and still has its effect in the present or even a event which is continuing at the moment.
Ed and D forms of verbs are used in the present perfect sentences.
Examples : I have finished the work assigned to me.
I have seen this scenery before.
Present Perfect Continuous .
Present perfect continuous tense is used in a sentence which has an event or an action which started in the recent past and is still continuing in the present or an action which progresses from the past to present. Or has just only stopped.
Words like have been and verb+ing ar used in such sentences.
Examples : I have been working on this skill for a week now.
I have been practicing this football move since morning.
Simple Future Tense.
Simple present tense is used to represent an action or n event that is going to happen in future. One easy fact that should be kept in the mind is that simple future tense action starts and ends in the future itself.
Helping verbs like will , can ,have and also base form of verbs are used in simple future tense.
Examples : I will not study from tomorrow.
I'll go to the trip if my friends come with me.
Future Continuous Tense.
Future continuous tense is used to represent an action or an event which going to happen at a certain time in future. It also defines an action which is progressing or continuing in the future.
Two helping verbs are used in the future continuous tense and a verb too.
Examples : I will be playing a football tournament tomorrow.
I will be studying for exam tomorrow.
Future Perfect Tense
Future perfect tense is a tense form which is used to represent an action or an event which will start and end over a particular time in the future. Future perfect tense sentence sentence has the completion of action or event which is entirely taking place in the future.
Two helping verbs together are used in such sentences like will have , will not along with ending verbs such as ed and d .
Examples : I will have warmed up by the time opponent team reaches ground.
By the time you read this it will be morning.
Future Perfect Continuous Tense .
The future perfect continuous tense is a tense form which can be used to represent an action or event which will be continuing until a certain point of time in the future. It can be also be represented as future progressive tense as it is an ongoing event in the future.
Helping verbs like will have been and main verbs are used in such sentences .
Examples : When i finish this course , I will have been studying the course for three months.
By 2024 I will have been breathing oxygen for twewnty years.
